What image does the word "discipline" bring to your mind? For some people, discipline looks like control or punishment. For others it can mean a field of study, a branch of knowledge, education, preparation, or self-mastery.

What does "discipline" mean in education. The field of study could be personal growth, where we try to educate ourselves spiritually towards positive behaviour, resulting in greater self-mastery. An excellent way of accomplishing this goal is through cultivating good thoughts, good words, and good deeds.

To quote an old adage, "Before we can start the day, we must first get out of bed!" To enter an advanced class in trigonometry, we must first study courses in basic mathematics. If we wish to grow spiritually, it is important to discipline ourselves through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds.
