A parachute has a small pilot chute that is released first to
pull the main canopy out of its container. A handle is attached to a "rip cord" that must be pulled to release the
pilot chute, which then fills with air. This provides the power to pull the main chute from its pack. As you can see,
things have to happen in the right order for a successful parachute jump. |
