Personal Relationships

Kindness

I believe happiness comes from kindness - Dalai Lama

If we can live up to "It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice," we set in motion a powerful energy. The way we respond and what we do for others certainly returns to us. When we are kind, loving, generous, open, honest, and sincere, other people will often respond in the same way. Our importance to others usually depends on showing, through what we say and do, that we care about them and about what is happening in their lives.

As members of the human family, it is only natural that we enjoy being appreciated and respected. It gives us a warm feeling when someone recognizes our accomplishments or sees potential in our abilities that we may not have recognized..

Yet, lasting self-esteem is built on how we rate our own worth and on our ability to meet life's challenges. We know we can have a more fruitful life if we approach every experience or situation with love and a positive attitude. When we understand what our worth is based on, we know that "being nice" is simply one expression of a lifelong process of personal development to be explored and cultivated.

The Kindness Project
The Kindness Project began in October of 1997 as a way for families to honour their deceased child and to help themselves heal. Now, years later, more than 500,000 Kindness Project cards have been used around the world to perform random acts of kindness in memory of a child, parent, friend, or spouse who died before their time. The idea is to perform random and usually anonymous acts of kindness in your community. A little card is left behind so that the person who benefits from the kindness knows that someone's life and death continues to matter. This beautiful movement has helped thousands of families to heal and find positive outlets for their overwhelming grief.
