St Clare of Assi

augustine

Clare was born to a wealthy family in Assi. From a young age she was keen to devote herself to God. One day she heard Saint Francis preaching in streets. She knew that they would be very close friends as they both wanted to serve God.

In an old house on the outskirts of Assi, Clare started an order of nuns who were called the Poor Clares. They lived a life of prayer, silence and fasting. Clare died about the year 1254.

The virtues that Saint Clare displayed throughout her life were, Justice, Faith, Hope and Love (Charity).
