Christian Men and Women
Saint David

David was born about then year 520 and he was brought up a Christian. He spent ten years as a monk and when he came out he travelled around England and Wales preaching about the life of Jesus. Soon David was made a bishop.
On his travels David went to a town called Bath. Here the people were very unhappy because they did not have clean water and some of the people believed that it was poisoned. They asked David to help them and he did. He blessed the water and the people were amazed to see that the water was clear, warm and sparkling. Men and women came from miles around to bathe in the clear water.
Word reached Wales of the work that David was doing in England. A great meeting was planned at a place in Wales called Brevi. David was a rather short man and when he arrived to speak to the crowd they could not see him. The crowd began to complain so David looked around for something to stand on. He could only find a handkerchief that he had in his robes. He placed this on the ground and the ground began to shake and the handkerchief began to rise and soon David was standing on a small mound (hill). Now everyone could see him and a large white dove fluttered from the sky and landed on his shoulder. The people said it was the sign of the Holy Spirit. This area is now known as St David’s and David lived there for many years.
One of the main meals in the monastery was boiled leeks which is the symbol of David and Wales. The monastery is no longer there, but instead there is a fine cathedral. The remains of Saint David are kept in this Cathedral and David is the patron Saint of Wales.
The virtues that David had throughout his life included Prudence, Faith and Hope.
