Saint George

Very little is known about the life of St George, but we do know that he was a soldier and a very holy man. In many pictures and stories he is often seen fighting with a dragon. Some people tell a story of George killing a dragon to save a princess. This was untrue. In fact some say that the dragon that George is often pictured fighting with is a symbol of evil and bad things in all our lives. If this is true then George can be viewed as our helper whenever we have to battle against our own dragons (evil).
George was very brave and had a very important job in the Roman army. George became a Christian and left the army. The Roman Emperor at the time did like Christians and sent out a kind of newsletter saying that all Christians should be killed. Legend has it that when George saw this notice pined up, he tore it down. George was martyred for his faith (killed because of his faith) around the year 305. He is the patron saint of Greece, England and Boy Scouts. In Greece he is known as 'the great martyr'.
Some of his virtues include Courage (Fortitude), Justice and Faith.
