Saint Peter the Apostle

peter

Before he became an Apostle Peter was known as Simon. He was a fine fisherman and when Jesus asked him to become an Apostle he said, "Follow me and I will make you a fisher of men".

Peter was Jesus', special friend and Jesus would explain everything that was important to him. Later he became known as 'the rock' but sometimes Peter boasted and ran into temptation.

One day Simon tried to walk on water but grew afraid, so Jesus had to rescue him. Jesus changed Simon's name to Peter which means the Rock. He made him the head of his church and Peter was the first Pope.

When Jesus was arrested Peter was afraid. He denied ever knowing him and told everyone that he was not an Apostle. Peter was very sorry he had done this and cried asking Jesus to forgive him and indeed Jesus did.

Peter ruled the church bravely and in the end he died nailed to a cross which was upside down.

Peter had many virtues some being Prudence, Courage (Fortitude), Faith and Hope.
