John Wesley

John Wesley (28 June 1703 - 2 March 1791) was an Anglican cleric and Christian who was the founder of the Methodist movement. "Methodism" was originally a nickname meaning the "Holy Club".
Wesley was a very holy man who spent much of his life trying to make other peoples lives better. He wanted to make sure that people were no longer slaves and that those who were in prison were offered a new chance to change their ways.
Throughout his life, Wesley remained within the Church of England. Often he disagreed with some of their beliefs but by the end of his life many people agreed with Wesley's views.
From 1739 onward, Wesley and the Methodists were persecuted by clergymen and magistrates. They were attacked when they tried to preach about their beliefs. They were very brave and continued to find ways to help and work among the neglected and needy. Nowadays there are many followers of Wesley who are known as Methodists.
John Wesley displayed many virtues throughout his life these included, Courage (Fortitude), Faith and Hope.
